5 Tips for Navigating Your Computer More Easily

Computers can do many amazing things, but it can take time to learn how to use a computer. This process can be slow and frustrating at times, but there are ways you can simplify things and make your computer easier to use. Here are five tips for navigating your computer more easily.

1. Use Organizational Tools

Tools such as password managers and OneLaunch can help you keep your computer navigation and internet usage organized and streamlined. Password managers store your login information for online accounts so you don’t need to worry about trying to remember them or risk writing them down. OneLaunch installs a useful toolbar on your browser with various features, including access to your clipboard history and recent windows, an integrated search bar so you can search online without opening a new window and a button you can use to turn your webcam and microphone on and off.

2. Utilize Folders

If you need to store large amounts of data on your computer’s hard drive or an external hard drive, you should set up folders to improve organization. Having a set of alphabetized folders makes it much easier to store and then find your files when you need them. Otherwise, you may need to scroll through large numbers of files to find the one you’re looking for. You should also name files appropriately. Give them straightforward names for scannability.

3. Adjust Your Computer’s Display Settings

Make sure your computer display suits your needs and preferences. You can adjust text size and color, change the font style and adjust the contract. You can also adjust magnification options by selecting a print size and changing the screen resolution so the display doesn’t get blurry or pixelated. When you change display properties or schemes, make sure you save them so they don’t reset between uses.

4. Learn Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts can be incredibly useful. When you utilize keyboard shortcuts, your hands don’t need to leave the keyboard at all and you don’t need to waste time moving a mouse, swiping on a trackpad or clicking. While it can take some time to learn these shortcuts, they can make your computer navigation more efficient in the long run. You also don’t need to memorize every possible keyboard shortcut. Instead, focus on universally useful ones, such as CTRL+C to copy text, and ones that are useful for your specific needs.

5. Focus on Customization

One of the best ways to make navigating your computer easier is to customize your folder structure, toolbars, homepage and bookmarks bar as much as possible. Customizing helps you make sure you can access the most useful tools or the tools you use most frequently easily and quickly. It also ensures you will be able to quickly scan for the tools or files you need.

It’s important that you make sure your computer works in a way that makes sense for you. Try several different tools and think about which ones feel most comfortable or seem to be most useful for you.
